How to Use

Planning your Wireless Deer Fence™

It is hard to pinpoint exactly how many Wireless Moose Fence™ posts you will need. Place posts wherever you think moose will find them. Moose browse for their food, and they generally will not seek an attractant from a long distance. They have to come across the posts as they wander, so position posts prominently.

  • Put posts around the perimeter of the area you want to protect.

  • Place posts within the area so that moose that wander past the perimeter posts can still find a post.

  • The recommended spacing for the Wireless Moose Fence™ posts is between 5 and 25 feet. The ideal distance varies depending on terrain, barriers to moose movement, landscaping, and location. The number of posts required and the placement is more of an art than a science. Moose are not always predictable.

  • Moose have to find a post and touch it, and it can take time to train all the moose in your area. Using more posts shortens the training period. If you use a small number of posts, cluster them in a smaller area for better results.

Testing the Wireless Deer Fence™

The Wireless Moose Fence™ produces a spark. DO NOT TEST IN AN EXPLOSIVE ENVIRONMENT. The circuit used is reliable, with a very low failure rate. Still, it is important to test the Wireless Moose Fence™ to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  1. Follow installation instructions for batteries. Allow several charge cycles to occur, which should take about 1 hour.

  2. Using the insertion/testing tool that accompanies each set of posts, cross any adjacent bare wires at the top of the post.

  3. Carefully watch for the contact points for a small electrical discharge. The small spark may be difficult to see in bright sunlight. If you don't see a spark, wait another hour and retest the Wireless Moose Fence™ in a darker location.

If a post is not functioning, return it to us within two years of the date of purchase, and we will replace it, postage paid. Test the Wireless Moose Fence™ posts often to ensure that they are operating properly.

Maintenance of the Wireless Deer Fence™

About once a month you should replace the scented resin tubes in the posts and check to see that the posts are sparking and clean of any spiders, insects or debris. Be sure that the posts do not become overgrown with vegetation. You can move the posts to better protect vulnerable plants as the seasons change. Change the batteries once a year.

Precautions for scented resin tubes: Direct contact of scented resin tubes with eye or skin may cause slight irritation. Wash hands after using.

Remove a scented resin tube; push the insertion tool into the indented end of the tube; and gently turn the tool clockwise to attach the resin tube to the tool. Push the attached resin tube into the fill hole on the post, and twist the insertion tool counterclockwise to release the resin tube. Replace the resin tubes about once a month. To remove used resin tubes, turn the insertion tool clockwise into the scented resin tube, and pull the old resin tube out. Dispose of used resin tubes in the trash. If you lose the insertion tool, a #6 wood screw or other screw may be used to remove resin tubes from post.
